I want to get started on giving all of you a bit more information on my journey with “Miss Bettye” as she battles Stage IV breast cancer. She is approaching her four-year anniversary (on Valentine’s Day) of this year. What a wonderful miracle – she is still going strong!
Being with Bettye during these last four years has given me plenty of opportunity to learn from her inspiration. I have tried to convey some of her thoughts and teachings by helping her to publish a book entitled The Way of the Cross: Meditations of a Cancer Survivor.
This book correlates the journey of a cancer patient with the steps that Jesus took on the road to Calvary. The book is particularly relevant as we enter the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. But, I also want to let you know that the book is not just for people suffering from cancer. It is a great resource for anyone who is facing a trial of some sort.
The book contains some of Bettye’s wise sayings. I call these sayings, “Bettyisms.” One of my favorites is: “We have an agenda, but God has a plan.” This Bettyism is featured with the first Station of the Cross meditation: “Jesus is condemned.” Bettye says that people hear the “C” word, and they are ready to just give up. But, you have to look further than the diagnosis. You have to reach deep inside and know that there is a beautiful plan out there.
You can purchase Bettye’s book by clicking “shop” on the website. You’ll find more information there as well.
Stay tuned for more Bettyisms and more messages of hope and inspiration.
